Most Parrot fish produce a mucus cocoon before going to sleep at night. Forming this cocoon hides their scent, protecting them from predators like eels. This mucus also covers the parrot fish's skin which helps repair body damage and protects their bodies from UV lights,
Unlike humans, Parrot fish have continuously growing teeth, this helps and allows them to have their diet the way it is. With their teeth always growing, it also replaces materials worn away from eating.
With the Parrot fish's diet consisting of mainly Algae and coral, they use their teeth to grind up the edible rock parts. After digesting the food, they eject sand from their body. On average, one parrot fish produces approximately 275 grams of sand a day.
