Niche
Parrot fish have a specific niche on tropical coral reefs. This is because of their unique teeth that have adapted to allow them to eat coral. They either scrape algae off the coral or eat chunks of coral and digest to get to the algae. Sometimes they even eat microorganisms that live on the coral. The remains of their food is then excreted into sand. This specialization means that there is very little competition for their food.
